WHAT IS SIGNAL
DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING
Anything that caries some information can be called a signal
Examples of signals are
1.Electrocardiogram (ECG)
2.Electroencephalogram(EEG)

That provides information about the health of a person's heart

That provides information about the brain activity of a person's

A signal is also defined as any physical quntity that varies with time. space or ant other independent variable
A signal can be a function of one or more independent variables
if a signal depends on onley one variable then it is known as one dimensional signal
EX:-Ac power supply signal ,speech signal
If a signal depends two independent variables then the signal is known as two dimensional signal
A picture is a function of two independent variables
Speech Signal
While speaking, the vocal cords constricts the flow of air from the lungs to the vocal tract. Due to this constriction the pressure in the lungs increase and the air flows out of the lungs and through the opening between the vocal cords. This flow of air is the source of energy for speech generation. A speech signal formed by exciting the vocal tract can be classified into two types. Voiced and unvoiced sounds. Voiced sounds are produced when the vocal cords vibrate in a relaxation mode.
